2005 NSF Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Program

 Another tool used in scientific research is the optical microscope.  The practical uses of lenses has been known for millennia, but it was during the Renaissance Period when scientists determined that a combination of lenses can yeild surprising results.  

Our summer was devoted to learning about electron microscopes, but those instruments would not have been discovered without the knowledge gained from its more humble cousin, the optical microscope.  Click below to download the powerpoint on this important instrument of science.
