Synchronous machine complex power

The animation examines the complex power delivered by a synchronous machine as the torque angle δ varies from -180° to 180° while maintaining the excitation voltage E fixed at controlled levels. The per-unit machine parameters , namely Vt, Xd, and Xq, can be adjusted independently. The characteristics are shown in the form of PQ plots in the complex plane; they have the shape of  'limaçon' of Pascal which reduce to concentric circles in the absence of saliency. Also shown are plots of the active and reactive powers as functions of angle.
