Prof. Giannakis Awarded McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair

ECE faculty Prof. Georgios Giannakis has been honored with one of the University’s highest faculty awards, a McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair. The Presidential Endowed Chair acknowledges the critical contributions of University faculty to the missions of research, education, and public engagement. Prof. Giannakis who is also the director of the Digital Technology Center, is only the third professor from the College of Science and Engineering to receive the honor.

Recipients are recommended by their college and chosen by the University president based on their academic and research accomplishments, and their contributions to advancing the University among its peers. The author of over 380 journal articles and 650 conference proceedings publications, Prof. Giannakis holds 28 patents in wireless technologies. He is also a leader in introducing signal processing and system theory to the opportunities and challenges of the smart grid.
